The Chief Technologist, Americas Sales is the lead on guiding and identifying technology trends and evolving customer architectures. This person will lead in envisioning the future of customer solutions that blend cutting edge technologies with existing products and services.

The ideal candidate will fixate on delivering value to our clients.  The Chief Technologist, Americas Sales will possess demonstrated expertise in the optimization of world-class technology systems that accelerate our clients’ digitization journeys.

The Chief Technologist, Americas Sales must have significant leadership experience in a technical role guiding development of new technologies. This role will assist in furthering the evolution of Americas Sales’ technical vision, aligning platform infrastructure with rapidly evolving industry standards, meeting growth objectives, and establishing positive relationships with both our customers and partner technical leadership teams.  Collaborating with our Product Management teams, you’ll identify technology trends and evolving customer behaviors that may support or impede the success of our business.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Establishes the technical vision and strategy for the Americas, bridging all architectures including enterprise networking, collaboration, security, and data center
  • Identify technology trends and influence the evolution of customer architectures and behaviors that may support or impede the success of the Cisco Sales business
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate emerging technologies and platforms for potential use in meeting customer needs.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; use intuition and experience to complement data
  • Generates creative solutions based on customer needs and business; ability to translate concept and information into images; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principals
  • Establish key performance indicators geared towards the development of solutions based on customer architectures
  • Reports directly to the Senior Vice President of the Americas
  • Serves as a key advisor to Cisco’s business units, providing input and guidance on the behalf of the Americas
  • Coordinate strategic efforts between Americas Sales teams to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation development, and deployment of new architectures
  • Works closely with the Vice President of Architectures and Engineering to communicate the Americas technology vision to the sales and engineering field
  • Works in a consultative fashion with other department heads, such as marketing, production and operations as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conducts research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation.

Requirements & Additional Details

  • Location: Cisco Headquarters in San Jose, California
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science  +  a minimum of 10+ years industry experience; ideally in Sales
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant depth and breadth of leadership and vast technology expertise to establish strategic direction and develop strategic relationships
  • Must be able to think strategically and operate tactically to drive and deliver on the technical vision in partnership with the VP or Engineering and Architecture
  • In depth experience in designing, managing and/or assessing complex technical infrastructures; particularly related to customer architectures
  • Expert programming experience using one or more structured languages, experience coding to product APIs
  • A proven track-record of leading one or more complex software projects and products; ideally in enterprise applications/developer services
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working externally with customers and/or partners
  • Ability to articulate a vision and inspire others to action
