What You'll Do

The INSBU nexus 9k group is looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to drive existing projects and engage in new development of our Nexus 9K family. The ideal candidate will have an ASIC design background with hands-on experience in RTL and verification, in-depth knowledge of mixed-signal SoC development cycle and best industry practices, from specification through tape-out and lab validation, and a proven track record of success in high-performance/high-volume semiconductor markets.

It used to be that high-speed packet forwarding was performed in dedicated ASIC designs. These days we are looking to make those ASICs more general and programmable. P4 has been proposed as a domain-specific language for this purpose. We are seeking an individual with significant network protocol expertise to work with a small team implementing             the forwarding model validation methodology.  where the intermediate representation from the front-end is applied to the target ASIC hardware.


Who You'll Work With

INSBU developed the Nexus 9000 line of data center switches and Application Centric Infrastructure, Cisco’s premier datacenter SDN solution. Our team within INSBU is responsible for driving integration of the Nexus 9000 and ACI with open source software, including OpenStack, Docker, and Open vSwitch, to help our customers build multitenant clouds.

INSBU develops high-performance switches for the data center and for the cloud. You will be working with the team that develops the ASICs at the heart of each of these switch products. There are only a very few teams worldwide that implement such devices. Every time you access the Internet, chances are, your data's been through one of our switches.


Who You Are

You Have ability to define, architect, design, and deliver new software protocols and features for the ACI Platform

Qualifications to have some of the following experience.

·       In-depth understanding of programmable forwarding hardware architectures

·       Strong technical foundation in networking

·       Strong C/C++ and python programming skills

·       Experience in L2 and L3 Ethernet switching and routing protocols (some or all of the following protocols; BGP, IS-IS, Fabric Path/Trill, IGMP, OSPF, STP, LACP, LLDP)

·       Experience in tunnel protocols. IPinIP, MPLS, VxLAN, L2VPN/L3VPN.

·       Experience in VM technology. 802.1BR. VEPA and Cisco VNTAG.

·       Experience in FCoE, QoS, sFlow, SPAN, BFD. Cisco vPC.

·       Experience in SDN, NFV technology.

·       Experience in ACL, netflow and Policy based forwarding.

·       Hands on experience on switch/router embedded system software development

·       Strong problem solving and software development/troubleshooting skills

·       10+ years of related work experience is required


Desired Skills

·       Experience with high availability related to switch/router products is a plus

·       Experience in data center fabrics and corresponding technologies like VxLAN is a plus

·       Experience in the forwarding model validation.
