What You'll Do

We are looking for a software/firmware development engineer for the Cisco ASR900 platform software development in our Kanata, Ontario R&D location. Cisco is a $48B+ company (), headquartered in San Jose, CA and a world leader in providing internet technology. The Cisco ASR9K Routing System is a Terabit routing platform and the industry’s only fully modular and distributed routing system that enables service providers to deliver a suite of data, voice, and video services over a highly available and highly scalable IP Next-Generation Network (NGN) infrastructure. 

Who You'll Work With

In this role you will be working with a team of high performance engineers and development leads to design and deliver new microcode/firmware features spanning a multitude of technologies including layer 3 and new next generation capabilities. You will contribute to all phases of software development, including product requirements, architecture, design, code, test and system integration. The team provides a fun and challenging environment for engineers and the ability to contribute to the next generation of internet technologies working with world class engineers.

Who You Are

Required Skills:

·         Collaborate with the Management Team in defining and planning projects.

·         Work independently and juggle multiple responsibilities.

·         Strong programming skills in Assembly, C or C++ in a Unix, or Linux environment.

·         Good analytical, communication and problem solving skills.

·         Good low-level debugging skills

·         Good understanding of concepts like TCAM, mtrie, NPUs, Traffic Managers, Pipeline architecture

Preference will be given to candidates with the following assets:

·         Previous experience working on embedded systems, MPLS, Segment Routing Technologies

·         Experience with IPv4/v6 L3 forwarding

·         Experience with EZchip family of Network Processors

·         Good grasp of networking technologies, routing protocols (ex. ISIS, OSPF, BGP)

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Programming experience (Assembly, C )

·         Creative problem-solving skills

·         Excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills using standard Linux tools

·         Excellent teamwork and people skills

·         Familiarity with Unix/Linux

·         Experience working on embedded systems, RTOS

·         Understanding of networking fundamentals and protocols (ex: ISIS, OSPF, BGP)

Educational Background

·         Bachelor in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related major with 5+ years experience
